Entrepreneurship and Marketing both give students opportunities to learn the concept of critical thinking and work individually as well as in teams. Each course provides a comprehensive foundation of the major basic aspects and concepts in business and marketing. There will be a mix of theory and actual business applications of the theory.
Entrepreneurship helps students gain an understanding of the business principles necessary to start and operate a business. Students will first learn basic economic principles related to business ownership. They will identify and assess common traits and skills found in entrepreneurs, explore business opportunities, and compare the risks and rewards of owning a business. The primary focus of the course is to help students understand the process of analyzing a business opportunity, developing a plan to organize and promote the business and its products/services, and finally, to understand the capital required, the return on investment desired, and the potential for profit.
Marketing is an introductory course designed for students who are interested in exploring how products are developed, produced, promoted, and distributed. Topics covered include basic marketing and economic concepts, the free enterprise system, legal and ethical issues concerning marketers, selling, advertising and promotion. In addition, communication, interpersonal, leadership and technology skills will be developed. Finally, Marketing students are responsible for running The Corner Store.
